Styling notes

Volume is your friend: a full skirt, a loose dress, or a wide trouser lets you sit on a rug for three hours without adjusting anything. Keep the palette warm and mid-toned — cream, olive, faded blue — because true white will find the one grass stain in the park. Skip the heel entirely; soft ground makes the decision for you. What shoes work best for a picnic?

Anything flat and walkable — a leather sandal, an espadrille, or a clean sneaker. Grass and soft ground make heels uncomfortable within minutes, however good they look on the way there.

Is a dress or trousers better?
