Wear·Cruise
What to wear on a cruise.
Sun on deck, wind at sea, and a dress code at dinner.

The idea
Three climates a day, one suitcase.

A cruise asks for sun on deck, wind on the rail, air conditioning indoors, and a proper dinner most evenings. Build one light palette that carries all four, add a single evening upgrade, and choose shoes for wet decks and cobbled ports rather than for the photographs.
The capsule
- 1
Light trousers and a linen shirt
The deck uniform: breathable, covered, easy to rinse.
- 2
One dinner outfit
A dress or a jacket and trouser for formal nights.
- 3
A windproof layer
It is always colder at sea than the forecast suggests.
- 4
Two shoes, no more
A flat or sandal with grip, and one refined evening shoe.
- 5
Sun protection with style
A packable hat, good sunglasses, a large scarf.
Styling notes
Choose one palette — navy and cream, or sand and olive — so every piece pairs with every other and evening is one accessory away from daytime. Favour crease-resistant cloth and avoid anything that only works ironed. Decks are wet and often slick, so grip matters more than heel height; save the refined shoe for the dining room. Check whether your ship has formal evenings before packing, and if it does, one good outfit worn twice is far better than two mediocre ones.
Sneaker inspiration
A quiet edit of minimalist white and cream leather sneakers — low-profile silhouettes, no loud branding — styled for work, dinner, and everyday ease.
Questions
What should I pack for a cruise?
+
One light palette of day clothes, a windproof layer, one formal-night outfit, and two pairs of shoes. Most cruise lines have laundry service, so packing for four days and repeating is comfortable.
Do cruises still have formal nights?
+
Many do, usually one or two per week, with a smart or black-tie-optional dress code. A dark dress or a jacket with tailored trousers covers almost every ship's requirement.
What should I wear on deck?
+
Breathable, covered clothes — linen or cotton trousers, a light shirt, a hat, and shoes with grip. Sea wind and reflected sun are much stronger than they feel at the time.
