White reads either clinical or considered, and the difference is almost entirely fabric.

A stiff, bright-white cotton can look like a uniform. A soft ivory linen or a brushed cotton knit looks chosen. Pick the warmer, softer end of white and the outfit relaxes with it.

Off-white and ivory are more forgiving near most skin tones and photograph softer. Save bright white for a single piece rather than the whole outfit.
