Styling notes

Choose fabrics that recover: fine merino, jersey, washed cotton, brushed denim. Linen looks wonderful for the first fifty kilometres and creased for the rest. Keep the driving shoe flexible and flat, and pack the smarter shoe where you can reach it at the last stop — changing shoes and adding one clean layer is the entire difference between arriving travelled and arriving dressed. Sun through a side window is stronger than it feels, so a light long sleeve earns its place even in warm weather.

What is most comfortable to wear for a long drive?

A soft trouser with some give at the waist, a fine knit or jersey top, and a flat flexible shoe. Avoid stiff waistbands, thick back seams, and anything that creases permanently when seated.

How do I look presentable when I arrive?

Keep one clean layer and the better shoe out of the boot. Changing those two things at the last stop resets the whole outfit without unpacking anything.
