Wear·Seasonal switch

What to wear when switching wardrobes for the season.

The handful of pieces that make a season change feel deliberate, not chaotic.

The idea

A season change needs less buying than it feels like, and more sorting than most people bother with.

Most of the wardrobe carries over quietly — trousers, neutrals, one good coat. What actually changes is the layering: fewer, lighter pieces in summer, a couple of warm additions in winter, both built around the base that never moves.

The capsule

  • 1

The trousers that carry over unchanged

Weight aside, the same cut and colour work in every season.

  • 2

    One seasonal fabric swap

Linen or cotton replacing wool, or the reverse, in the same silhouette.

  • 3

A single new layer for the season ahead

One coat or knit, bought properly rather than as a stopgap.

  • 4

    Shoes rotated, not multiplied

A sandal or boot swapped in, the rest of the shoe rail staying still.

  • 5

A box for what's leaving, not the bin

Off-season pieces stored properly return in better shape.

Styling notes

Change one variable at a time rather than the whole wardrobe at once — swap the coat before the trousers, the fabric before the colour. The palette that worked in one season usually still works in the next; only the weight of the cloth really needs to move.

Questions

How do I switch my wardrobe between seasons without overbuying?

+

Keep the base — trousers, neutrals, one good coat — and change only the layering weight and one or two seasonal pieces. Most of a wardrobe should carry over unchanged.

What should I actually store away each season?

+

Only the pieces that genuinely don't work in the coming weather — heavy knits in summer, the lightest fabrics in deep winter. Everything else can usually stay out.

Is it worth buying new pieces every season?

+

Rarely more than one or two. A single well-chosen coat or knit each season does more than several minor additions that don't quite earn their place.
