Wear·Long-haul flight
What to wear on a long-haul flight.
Eleven hours in a cold cabin, and an arrival worth looking at.
Plan a long-haul outfit- Layered
- Considered
The idea
Dress for the cabin, not for the destination.

The cabin is cold, dry, and long, and you will arrive into a climate you cannot control. Build the outfit in soft layers you can shed and add, choose cloth that does not hold a crease, and wear a shoe you can take off at hour three and put back on at hour ten.
The capsule
- 1
A soft, wide trouser
Jersey, brushed cotton, or fine wool. Room to sleep in.
- 2
A plain long-sleeve base
Merino or good cotton. Warm, breathable, no seams that dig in.
- 3
A generous knit or cardigan
Blanket, pillow, and layer in one piece.
- 4
Slip-on shoes with a warm sock
Feet swell. Laces become a negotiation.
- 5
A large scarf
The most useful thing in the cabin, at every hour.
Styling notes
Keep everything in one dark, forgiving palette so the whole outfit still looks intentional after eleven hours. Avoid denim, anything stiff at the waist, and anything you would be sad to crease. Wear the bulkiest layer rather than packing it, and keep one clean item — a shirt, a fresh top — in the cabin bag so you can change before landing. Comfort and looking put-together are not in conflict here; softness and a dark palette get you both.
Sneaker inspiration
A quiet edit of minimalist white and cream leather sneakers — low-profile silhouettes, no loud branding — styled for work, dinner, and everyday ease.
Questions
What is the most comfortable thing to wear on a long flight?
+
Soft wide trousers, a merino base layer, and a generous knit. Nothing tight at the waist or ankles, and a shoe that slips off easily — feet swell noticeably over long distances.
Should I avoid jeans on a long-haul flight?
+
Generally yes. Denim is stiff at the waist and seams, holds cold, and creases badly. A soft trouser in a dark colour looks just as neat and stays comfortable across a full flight.
How do I arrive looking presentable?
+
Keep the palette dark and the cloth crease-resistant, then change one item before landing. A fresh top and a tidied outer layer are enough to look like you did not spend the night in a seat.
